The first day of my fall break has seen this weird, grey lingering mist; the sun hasn’t shone once today, about 7 loads of laundry (yes, it was dire), and a completed submission for the hp_halloween Fest.
I saw my assignment and had a terrible moment of panic, thinking how can I possibly write something, in two hundred words no less, that this person will like because our styles are different. So I went digging, reading through some of this person’s work and gifts from the previous fests. I wrote four different drabbles last night and none of them were working—it’s hard for me to trim down my writing because my prose tends to be very descriptive, and thus quite long. I picked and poked at the words for several hours last night before finally deleting every bit of it and starting over.

The end result was, I think, is something much different from what I’ve written before, in both style and genre. My beta said if I didn't use it, I was insane, so I trust her judgement. I hope, by some small miracle, that my recipient likes it. *Crosses Fingers*

As far as the latest chapter of my newest WIP is concerned, it’s sitting at a stagnant 6 thousand words or so. I know what I need to do to get it where it needs to be, but don’t have much effort at the moment where I’ve been out of commission these last few months. Tonight, or tomorrow at least, I will finish it if I have to chain myself to the desk to do so.

I also need a new book to read. I finished The Watchmaker of Filigree Street this morning over my yogurt. It was a really decent book, lots of memorable characters and quite an interesting plot. If you have a spare day and a half or so, its worth a glance.

I’m off shopping with my mother this afternoon once she gets home from work. She’s spent the last few weeks tending to my Dad, who just had a total knee replacement surgery. He’s doing well enough to stay at home by himself now, and she and I haven’t gone out, just the two of us, in a while. I’m looking forward to it.

Hugs to those who need them.

I'm super impressed that you have your Halloween piece done. I mean, I know it's only 200 words, but as you've shown, 200 words is hard. Good for you!

Thanks. I figured I needed to get it finished soon in the event they needed pinch hitters at the last minute. Nothing lights a fire like a deadline LOL.
