Bad Case of the Blues
I feel like a cat chasing after one of those stupid lasers when it comes to my writing. It's absolutely maddening to have the thought I want right there in front of my face, dancing around like some little smug bastard. But that's not the worst part. No, the worst part is when I take a swat at it and it somehow manages to slip right through my hands.

I have discovered control, discipline, and practice tends to lend itself to considerable progress but damn, sometimes I feel as if I am about to lose my mind. To be a writer (I know I don't fit under this category but humor me, please) a person has to set themselves up high somewhere and wait for the Muse to creep by. Have to be sneakier than that darned Muse.  I have learned very quickly that I just can't make myself write every blasted day, trying to force her to show herself. I have also learned that getting into the habit of writing every single day does make it come easier when the notion strikes. I sit down at my computer every day and write something so that when the crazy fool I call my Muse decides to show her face, I have the best chance of getting my hands on her, thrashing her a few times so she knows I'm in charge, and then wringing every last word from her that I can possibly manage.

I have had enough of just sitting at my desk, scowling at my computer screen, willing the words to just type themselves. With that being said, I have decided to do something I haven't done in a long time. I am taking a well deserved vacation away from my computer, away from all the plots floating around in my head, just away from everything. If I hate writing it, I imagine people will hate reading it, and that defeats the entire purpose or writing. What am I going to do, you ask? Well, It's obvious, isn't it? I'm going to do what every stressed out school teacher from Kentucky does- I'm going spelunking and cave diving. It is incredibly foreign, dangerous and just what I need. Hopefully, when I return I'll be able to get back to the grind and start cranking out some chapters for my WIP and maybe even some original stuff.

Until then, may the Muse be with those of you who write because she certainly isn't at my house.

Spelunking? possibly the best known cure for writers block...

i'm glad inspiration struck, even if it did come in the form of a deathfic (I've never dared even attempt one - too sad!) These challenge comma are great for that sort of thing. Getting something written and published feels great!

Yes, Spelunking, and it was sinfully satisfying. I know what you mean about getting something finished. It drives me mad when I can't finish something. For instance, my new WIP has a chapter that is a little over half complete. I cannot seem to get my train of thought to focus on what needs to happen. Blah. I honestly don't know where that deathfic came from. I looked at the prompt before I went to bed yesterday, and that was just the idea that took over.

I love that cartoon. As far as the friends go, I have started to send out some messages to people. Hopefully I can add a few more people. I'm terribly bashful when it comes to introducing myself to new people. But then I realized what's the point of having a LiveJournal if you have no friends to read it?

Exactly! This is a friendly ship. Try friending rivertempest too. Sempraseverus is an artist.
